What the InBody 580 Measures

The scale tells you what you weigh. The InBody 580 tells you what that weight is made of. Your result sheet includes:

Skeletal Muscle Mass

The muscle you train and move with. This is the number we want to see go up as you get stronger.

Body Fat Mass and Percent Body Fat

How much of your weight is fat, shown in pounds and as a percentage, so you can track fat loss separately from total weight.

Segmental Lean Analysis

Lean mass for your right arm, left arm, trunk, right leg, and left leg. This helps us spot side-to-side imbalances, which matters for athletes and for anyone coming back from an injury.

Visceral Fat Level

An estimate of the fat stored around your organs in the abdomen. Lowering it is one of the most useful health goals you can set.

Total Body Water

Total body water, plus intracellular and extracellular water and the ECW ratio, which shows fluid balance.

Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)

The calories your body burns at rest. We use it as a starting point for nutrition targets.

The InBody 580 also reports phase angle, fat-free mass, BMI, and an InBody Score, and it keeps a history graph so you can see your trend over time.

How the InBody 580 Works

The InBody 580 uses direct segmental multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance analysis (DSM-BIA). You stand on the platform and hold the hand electrodes, which gives 8 contact points at your hands and feet. The device sends a safe, low-level current through your body and takes 20 impedance measurements at 4 frequencies (5, 50, 250, and 500 kHz) across your arms, legs, and trunk. It measures each segment directly and does not rely on age or gender to estimate results. The test takes about 30 seconds, and it is painless.

Who the InBody Scan Is For

Athletes

See how much muscle you carry, check left-to-right balance in your arms and legs, and track changes through the off-season and in-season.

Youth Athletes (with a parent)

The InBody 580 is designed for ages 3 and up and prints a children's result sheet. A parent or guardian should come to the scan and the results review.

Adults

Get a real starting point for your training, then retest to prove your program is working.

Weight Loss and Body Recomposition

Losing fat while keeping or building muscle often looks like slow progress on the scale. The InBody shows what is actually changing.

How to Prepare for Your InBody Scan

  • No food for about 2 to 3 hours before your scan.
  • No workout before your scan. Schedule it before training, not after.
  • Hydrate normally. Do not chug a lot of water right before the test.
  • Use the bathroom right before you step on.
  • Remove socks, shoes, jewelry, watches, and other metal.
  • Wear light clothing, and for repeat scans, test at about the same time of day.
  • Do not take the test if you have a pacemaker or other implanted electronic medical device.

How Long It Takes

The scan takes about 30 seconds. Plan on about 15 minutes total so we can enter your information, run the test, and review your results with you.

How A2Z Uses Your Results

Your InBody numbers are not just a printout. Our coaches use them to set your starting point, pick training priorities, and address muscle imbalances. We retest on a regular schedule and compare results in your progress reports, so you and your coach can see changes in muscle, body fat, and visceral fat, not just weight. InBody results also pair well with our Nutrition Coaching, Sports Performance, 1-on-1 Personal Training, and Small Group Personal Training programs.

InBody Scan FAQ

What is an InBody 580 scan?

An InBody 580 scan is a quick, non-invasive body composition test. You stand barefoot on the device and hold the hand electrodes for about 30 seconds while it sends a safe, low-level current through your body. It then reports your skeletal muscle mass, body fat percentage, segmental lean mass for each arm, leg, and the trunk, visceral fat level, total body water, and basal metabolic rate.

How much does an InBody scan cost at A2Z Sports Training?

A single InBody 580 scan is $30, or buy a 4-pack for $100 ($25 per scan). Buy a single scan or 4-pack online, then call or text 520-866-0055 or email contact@a2zst.com to pick your time. Adult Small Group members get a free InBody scan every 8 weeks, and our Adult Small Group pre-program course includes an InBody scan.

How accurate is the InBody 580?

The InBody 580 uses direct segmental multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance analysis (DSM-BIA) with 8-point tactile electrodes. It takes 20 impedance measurements at 4 frequencies (5, 50, 250, and 500 kHz) across 5 body segments and does not use age or gender to estimate results. The biggest factor in accuracy is testing under the same conditions every time, so we coach you on how to prepare.

How do I prepare for an InBody scan?

Skip food for 2 to 3 hours before your scan, do not work out beforehand, hydrate normally, and use the bathroom right before testing. Wear light clothing, and plan to remove socks, shoes, jewelry, watches, and other metal. For progress checks, test at the same time of day under the same conditions.

How long does an InBody scan take?

The scan itself takes about 30 seconds. Plan on about 15 minutes total so we can enter your information, run the test, and walk through your results with you.

Can kids and youth athletes get an InBody scan?

Yes. The InBody 580 is designed for ages 3 and up, and it has a dedicated result sheet for children. Athletes under 18 should have a parent or guardian with them for the scan and the results review.

Who should not take an InBody scan?

Anyone with a pacemaker or other implanted electronic medical device should not take an InBody test, because the device sends a small current through the body. If you are pregnant, talk with us first, since results are less reliable during pregnancy.

How often should I get an InBody scan?

Most clients rescan every 4 to 8 weeks. That is long enough to see real changes in muscle and body fat, and it matches how our Adult Small Group members get a free scan every 8 weeks.
